In a bid to calm the growing apprehension in Imo communities following the recent incident that occurred in Enugu community, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Taiwo Lakanu, met with herdsmen in the state yesterday at Obinze, Owerri West Local Government Area of the state to avert a repeat occurrence in the state.
The CP who also deployed Policemen to the affected communities also noted that he had observed the fear by affected communities in the state over the activities of Fulani herdsmen, adding that the meeting had become necessary to ensure that the lives and properties of everybody in the communities are safe.
He listed the communities that are under the alleged siege by the herdsmen to include Abueke community in Ihitte Uboma Council Area of the state as well as Ezinihitte and Ihube communities in Okigwe Council Area.
Lakanu at the meeting, appealed to the herdsmen to live in peace and cooperate with their host communities and security agencies in the State.
He warned them against taking their cattle to graze in people’s farms, while pleading with the communities and indigenes to live in harmony with one another irrespective of their tribe, assuring that the police will protect every law abiding citizen in the state.
